Member, Board of Directors
Recognized industry-wide as a person of influence, Mark Willis is renowned for his passion, leadership and steadfast commitment to consistently producing a high level of achievement.
Mark knew he wanted to be in real estate at age 11, but it wasn't until high school in 1980 when his mother sold $14 million in one year that he was set - this is a good industry. He began his career with Keller Williams Realty in 1991 as the team leader of the Austin Southwest market center, where he quadrupled the office's production over a five-year period. He quickly rose to the regional director role, expanding the South Texas Region to San Antonio and Houston. Eventually he built a 1,900-agent business and in the process earned a place in the REAL Trends Billionaires' Club. After serving as president of Keller Williams, Mark stepped into the role of CEO in 2005.
During this time, Mark has led the company through one of the most tumultuous markets in the history of real estate. Luckily, Mark doesn't think in terms of failure, but rather challenge and opportunity. He has been instrumental in setting ambitious growth goals, urging associates to seize the downturn as an occasion for expansion and modeling a caliber of leadership that ensures success for Keller Williams Realty.
As a result, the company and its associates have continuously outpaced the industry. Mark largely credits Keller Williams' unique belief in people, education and technology. For him, real estate is about the people Keller Williams serves - its associates being No. 1. He promotes Keller Williams and his role as servant leader - helping people get what they want by teaching them to think.
With Mark's help, Keller Williams Realty continues to grow in associate count and market share. Already leading the industry as the world's largest real estate franchise by agent count, Keller Williams has its sights set on being the world's No. 1 in transactions and sales volume.
When Mark's not planning world domination, he'll most likely be somewhere outdoors with his wife Cindy and daughter Mary Elizabeth. As an avid business reader, there's a good chance you'll also find him in the hot tub or getting some cardio in with a good book on leadership. He lives in Austin, Texas.
